Volunteer Service Abroad connects skilled volunteers with organisations and communities in the Pacific and beyond to support locally identified aspirations and achieve sustainable change.
Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About the role:
This is your opportunity to become a VSA Volunteer to share your experience, skills and knowledge to serve and build capacity in Fiji. Work alongside our local partner organisation to plan and create a brighter future.

We are looking for an experienced volunteer with comprehensive knowledge of IT systems and database management or someone with the right level of transferrable skills, who understands and shares the spirit of volunteering, with an interest in building capability in the Pacific. This assignment will be based in Navuso in Fiji and projected to run for 12 months.
Please note the VSA will support you by funding and organizing your flights, visas, insurances, accommodation, living allowance and utilities while you are on assignment.

Ngā tino Pūkenga/Wheako – Essential skills/experiences for the role:
If you are interested in this opportunity, below are some of the key skills and experiences that we’re looking for.

Navuso Agricultural Technical Institute (NATI) was established in 1924 and operated by the Methodist Church of Fiji and Rotuma. NATI is a leading agricultural training institution located in Navuso, Naitasiri. NATI offers a Certificate in Agriculture (Integrated) Level 4, emphasizing 80% hands-on, practical training across ten agricultural enterprises, including dairy, crops, aquaculture, and machinery.
Recent initiatives NATI have been working on include a 12-acre organic learning farm, a student-farmer scheme with startup support, and new resources like irrigation systems as well as an excavator to enhance climate-smart farming education.
The Assignment:
NATI is seeking a skilled and motivated VSA volunteer to support the organisation in strengthening its digital infrastructure and building much-needed internal technical capacity. Currently, NATI lacks in-house expertise in key areas such as IT systems, website development, and database management—factors that limit the efficiency and impact NATI’s service delivery.
A volunteer deployed on this assignment will lead efforts to improve and modernise these systems, including supporting the development of a sustainable database to track student and graduate performance. These improvements will enable better data-driven decision-making and significantly enhance the quality and reach of our training programmes. In addition to technical upgrades, the volunteer will play a vital role in building long-term organisational sustainability through staff and student training.

The Country – Fiji:
Fiji includes the other 3 cultural groups called Fijians -Rotuma, Rabi, and Kioa (Rabian and Kioans) were resettled in Fiji after being evacuated from Ocean islands, Tuvalu and Kiribati).
It is a destination attraction for its coral reefs, clear lagoons, and tropical landscapes. Fijian indigenous society is very communal, with great importance attached to the family unit, the village, and the vanua (land). With the introduction of traditions such as Indian and Chinese and significant influences from Europe and Fiji's Pacific neighbours, particularly Tonga and Samoa, these various cultures have come together to create a multicultural national identity for Fiji.

Fiji has several development goals they are focusing on as a country such as lowering youth unemployment rates, reducing poverty, reducing child mortality and gender inequality, increasing environmental sustainability, and improving the health and education status of its citizens.
