This is your opportunity to become a VSA Volunteer to share your experience, skills and knowledge to serve and build capacity in Fiji. Work alongside our local partner organisation to plan and create a brighter future for all.
We are looking for a volunteer with knowledge and experience in governance and working directly with executive leadership or someone with the right level of transferrable skills, who understands and shares the spirit of volunteering, with a keen interest in building capability in the Pacific. A key goal of this assignment is to develop a Governance Induction and Board Training package and supporting implementation to enable consistent and culturally relevant onboarding for Board Members across Pacific Member Associations.
This assignment will be based in Fiji and projected to run for 6 months. The VSA provides support by funding and organizing flights, visas, insurances, accommodation, living allowance and utilities while volunteers are deployed on assignment.

The International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) is a global organisation committed to advancing sexual and reproductive health and rights for underserved and marginalised populations. It partners with national Member Associations in over 140 countries and operates regionally via offices such as the East & Southeast Asia & Oceania Regional Office (ESEAOR) and its Sub‑Regional Office for the Pacific, based in Suva, Fiji.
The Assignment:
A volunteer deployed on this assignment will directly support the IPPF’s purpose in strengthening Member Associations across the Pacific by enhancing their governance capacity. The volunteer will work closely with in-country teams to codesign and develop a tailored Governance Induction and Board Training package, drawing from existing resources and adapting them to the Pacific context. This dedicated support will enable staff to deliver effective governance training, ultimately contributing to stronger, more accountable, and sustainable Member Associations.
The Country – Fiji:
Fiji includes the other 3 cultural groups called Fijians -Rotuma, Rabi, and Kioa (Rabian and Kioans) were resettled in Fiji after being evacuated from Ocean islands, Tuvalu and Kiribati).
It is a destination attraction for its coral reefs, clear lagoons, and tropical landscapes. Fijian indigenous society is very communal, with great importance attached to the family unit, the village, and the vanua (land). With the introduction of traditions such as Indian and Chinese and significant influences from Europe and Fiji's Pacific neighbours, particularly Tonga and Samoa, these various cultures have come together to create a multicultural national identity for Fiji.
Fiji has several development goals they are focusing on as a country such as lowering youth unemployment rates, reducing poverty, reducing child mortality and gender inequality, increasing environmental sustainability, and improving the health and education status of its citizens.

- Proven experience in small to medium (5-30 staff members) NGO Governance and Board accountability
- Experience in developing training packages and tools to deliver training (PowerPoint, activities to support learning specific to Pacific context (to be used both in online and in face-to-face format)
- Experience in monitoring and evaluating, or measuring Board effectiveness
- Experience in leading training sessions or facilitating development workshops.
